Context-free word problem semigroups

Abstract: I will give an overview of joint work with Alan Cain and Markus Pfeiffer on semigroups with context-free word problem, covering at least the following: - What does it mean for a semigroup to have context-free word problem? - Is there a nice generalisation to semigroups of Muller and Schupp's famous result that a group has context-free word problem if and only if it is virtually free? - To what extent is the class of semigroups with context-free word problem closed under standard semigroup constructions (free product, direct product, Rees matrix etc.)?
